About Sophyix

Why Sophyix exists

Being good at something is not the hard part. Finding the people who need it, proving to them that you are worth the risk, and being paid without chasing anyone — that is the part that eats the week.

The problem

Independent expertise is sold in the worst possible market. You compete on a profile nobody can verify, against a price nobody can justify, for work described in two lines by someone who has not decided what they want. Then you invoice, and wait. The people who do this well are not better at the work — they are better at the overhead around it.

What we built

A marketplace where the brief is written properly before it reaches you, where you can prove your skills with an exam rather than an adjective, where you can read the other side before spending a proposal on them, and where the money is in escrow before the work starts. The overhead is the product.

How we think about it

Three decisions the whole product follows from

You set the terms before anyone can reach you

Teaching, collaborating and taking delivered work are three different arrangements, so they are three separate offerings here — each with its own rate, format and terms, and each with an activation gate that will not let it go live half-filled. Nobody can approach you on a basis you never agreed to, and turning one off is one control.

Evidence, not adjectives

Anyone can write "expert" on a profile. So the things that carry weight here are the ones someone else can check: a proctored certification with identity verified at the start and monitored throughout, reviews that can only be written after a finished engagement, and a public reply so a one-sided account is never the last word.

One fee, and only when you have been paid

Sophyix takes 10% of a completed engagement — from the agreed amount, at the moment the escrow releases — and that is the only charge tied to your work. It pays for card processing, the escrow that holds the money while you do the job, and running the platform. Nothing is charged for joining, applying, being invited or being hired, and no subscription tier buys a lower rate: an expensive plan and a free one are billed identically on the work itself.

Who it is for

Anyone who is genuinely good at one thing

Sophyix covers 35 subject areas — a Django specialist and a piano teacher and a tax accountant are all here on the same terms, with the same escrow behind them. If your subject is niche, that is an argument for this platform rather than against it: the matching runs on skills, not on a category you had to squeeze yourself into.

And what Sophyix is not

  • We do not charge you to be here. No fee to join, to apply, to be invited or to be hired — the 10% comes out of finished, paid work and nothing else.
  • We do not sell placement. Ranking is built from fit with the opportunity, credentials, reliability and how you are reviewed — no plan buys a higher position.
  • We do not run background checks. Identity is verified when you sit a proctored exam, and that is the extent of it today. An earlier version of this page implied more; it was wrong, and we would rather correct it than quietly drop it.
  • We are not your employer and we do not assign you work. You choose what you take, and what you charge for it.
